Arriving in Indianapolis
Indianapolis is served by one international airport (IND). It is a mid
sized airport with good connections to major cities. The airport is a 15
minute trip from the hotel. A shuttle is available every 20 minutes. You
do not need to rent a car if you are flying in. Links to the airport and
the shuttle are below.

by
road. A map showing the city and connecting highways is available on the
hotel reservation link. Parking will be free for all attendees during the
get together. Detailed information regarding parking will be provided to
all attendees.
Accommodations
The
Indianapolis Marriott Downtown is a AAA 4 Diamond Hotel located on 350
W. Maryland Street. The CMC Vellore Alumni rate is $110 per night plus
tax, good for the three nights of the GOTC and two days earlier
and later. These rates are good through May 17th provided the block does
not fill, so please make your reservations early. Links are provided below
to hotel information and to make your reservations online, you do not have
to enter a code. Please choose attendee in drop down list for guest type
when you reserve. You can also call Marriott Reservations at (800)266-9432
and ask for the CMC Vellore Alumni Reunion rate.

Parking Information:
Parking is available at the Indiana Government
Center parking lot immediately adjacent to the hotel. Enter through the
section marked Visitors and identify yourself as attending the Christian
Medical College Reunion. You can park in any available spot. Please pick
up a parking pass at registration, this will allow you to park free
starting at 11am Thursday through midnight Sunday and includes in/out
privileges. If you arrive prior to or stay after the GOTC, discounted self
parking and valet is available at the hotel.

The registration fee is $130 per family. Please complete the attached
registration form which also includes payment for food and White River
State Park passes. You can print a copy and mail it to us. Your check
should be payable to GOTC 2011. Please use separate checks for
registration and food and mail it to the address at the bottom of the
form. A provisional schedule of events for the GOTC is shown below.

Dr. Mammen Chandy, Professor of Medicine and Hematology, retired from CMC earlier
this year after a 30-year career of clinical work and teaching. He
is now Director at Tata Memorial Hospital, a new cancer hospital in Kolkota, where he is also starting a Bone Marrow Transplant program.
He will speak at our Friday evening dinner. Mrs. Anu Mammen taught
at the Vidyalayam School in Vellore for many years and more recently ran
the playroom for leukemia children in CMC. She retired last year.

Friday Afternoon activity.
After the CME program and a casual lunch at the hotel we plan to walk the
2 blocks to White River State Park. Please take a moment to look at the
attached website which details all the activities available. Purchasing a
park pass means you have access to all the attractions at WRSP and you can
do so slowly over the entire four days of the GOTC if you choose to do so.
We have obtained the passes at a significantly discounted rate. You do not
need a pass to enter the park and are free to walk all 250 acres including
the 1.5 mile long canal, and purchase individual tickets if you choose to
do so.

OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this conference the participant should be

Identify the technique of endobronchial ultrasound and evaluate
the data to support the use of EBUS for mediastinal staging of cancer.

Describe colorectal practice in a tertiary teaching hospital in
India;

Demonstrate a knowledge of the etiology and management of
Intracerebral hemorrhage;

Recognize more recent advances on the management of Hypoxic
Ischemic Encephalopathy;

Discuss the various options in the surgical management of
Thymomas and describe indications, steps and results of thoracoscopic
resection of thymoma;

Describe the evolution and current state of services for the
homeless mentally ill in Vellore India and evaluate the nature and
quality of services for the same;

Express updates in Geriatrics, focusing on recent articles in
Medical literature and discuss the potential impact of these articles on
current clinical practice;

Discuss the normal cardiovascular changes in sleep, the different
forms of sleep apnea, and the sympathetic surge as a result of
obstructive sleep apnea resulting in hypertension, CHF,CAD and
mortality;
- Explain
the occurrence of atrial fibrillation with OSA and the beneficial
effects of treatment with CPAP therapy;

Identify patients who may benefit from invasive therapy for
atrial fibrillation and review the possible complications following
ablation;

Describe the sites of the heart that are now considered to
trigger atrial fibrillation;

Recall modern human genetics, how genetic susceptibility
contributes to breaks in immune function and this knowledge contributing
to devising novel therapies for many common disease including chronic
inflammatory disorders;

Describe the different types of stem cells and how they
differentiate and proliferate, the principles of an allogenic
hematopoetic stem cell transplant and the possible uses of other types
of stem cells including mesenchymal stem cells;

Review the role of stem cell therapy for degenerative diseases
needs further study.
